About Rotterdam The Hague Airport
Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA) is a regional airport that plays an important role in the international accessibility and connectivity of the Rotterdam-The Hague metropolitan region. Each year, approximately 2.4 million passengers travel through RTHA to more than 50 destinations across Europe and Morocco. The airport is known for its efficient operations, short waiting times, and customer-focused service, with a strong emphasis on providing a smooth and pleasant travel experience. As a regional airport, RTHA is closely connected to the city and surrounding region, serving as an accessible and familiar home base for travelers. In addition, RTHA fulfills an important public service role as the operating base for trauma and police helicopters.
The airport opened in 1956 in the Zestienhoven polder and has been part of Royal Schiphol Group since 1990. Since 2010, it has operated under the name Rotterdam The Hague Airport, reflecting its strategic location between Rotterdam and The Hague.
RTHA plays a broad role within the region as an employer, educational hub, business partner, connector, and testbed for innovation. As an innovation hub, the airport makes its grounds available as a demonstration and testing site for new, more sustainable ideas and solutions. In collaboration with industry partners, research institutes, and Royal Schiphol Group, RTHA works to develop and accelerate innovation within the aviation sector.
