Daniel V. Tănase is the managing partner of ASSIST Software SRL, a software research and development company he co-founded in 1992 that now employs more than 350 people. In 2016, the Romanian Chamber of Commerce ranked ASSIST Software as Romania’s top information technology research and development firm.
A graduate of the University of Bucharest, Daniel earned his Master of Science in Physics – Nuclear Reactor Engineering and later obtained a master’s in business administration (MBA) from the Open University (UK).
Daniel joined Rotary in 2002 as a charter member of his club. Among other roles, he has served as Rotary Coordinator, Chair of the Rotary Institute in Bucharest, and several times as a Rotary International President’s Representative. He has been a Training Leader at the International Assembly and has served in various capacities for Governors-Elect Learning Seminars at the Zone 21 level.
He served in 2025-2026 as Chair of the RI Board Executive Committee and Board Liaison to the RI Joint Operations Review Committee.
Daniel co-founded the ASSIST Humanitarian Foundation, an organization that has collaborated with Rotary on disease-prevention projects and received a Certificate of Appreciation from The Rotary Foundation. He served on the board of the Blijdorp Romania Association, a day-care facility for children with severe disabilities.
Daniel enjoys climbing, hiking, skiing, and playing the board game Go. He has written books on management, a collection of short stories, and a Pocket Handbook for Rotarians, which he distributes freely at Rotary events while encouraging donations to The Rotary Foundation.
Daniel has received Rotary’s Service Above Self Award. He and his spouse, Marlena, support The Rotary Foundation as Major Donors.
